Ama Dablam Expedition (27 Days)

Tour Duration:

Ama Dablam Expedition
At 6,812 meters, Mt. Ama Dablam in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal is named after a glacier that runs down its side. It is unmistakably that particular peak which largely looms over the trail to Everest Base Camp and one that looks like a pearl pendant shooting upwards into the sky. As magnificent as it is, the summit offers stunning views of Mt. Everest, Pumori, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and other peaks of the Himalayas.

Beautiful and equally striking from a distance, the ascent is one of the most rewarding ones in Nepal. Climbing Mount Ama Dablam requires a very good level of expertise. During the ascent, one can expect challenges – particularly at “Yellow Tower” – a 15-meter vertical clearing. This and several other challenges demand a skilled climbing guide (with confident leadership), plus a good level of experience and strength in part of
the climber. The ascent begins from the south-western ridge, with gradually increasing demand of stamina until reaching the third camp. The climb up to Camp I is easy and as you move up Camp I and Camp II, the intensity and difficulty increase significantly. Past Camp III, the challenge increases as you go around the glacier, cross a ridge and a crevasse, and finally get to the summit.

Two interesting stories are widely popular about the mountain – the first one is that it looks like a jewel box due to the shape of a glacier found on its south-western face. A second story is that mountaineer Edmund Hillary was nearly imprisoned for climbing the sacred peak – but probably he didn’t know about the sacredness, and official climbing permits might not have been so ubiquitous back in the days!

In the modern day, the journey takes you via Tengboche Monastery, branching off from the main trail to Everest Base Camp. It grows rocky on the way up until snow begins to appear near the mountain itself. When you reach the base, the actual ascent begins via the south-western ridge. The ascent is lined with rocky terrains and snowy ridges, deep furrows and rock walls that are awe-inspiring, and ravines that challenge you to the extreme.

The best time for an expedition to Ama Dablam is in late fall when the weather is fairly predictable. The second best time is in early spring. Please enquire and book with us at least two months prior to your arrival in Nepal.

Gushing mountain-rivers with crystal clear waters, skies with a colour that is hard to find in the colour-charts, views that are rare elsewhere, and experience of feeling that can’t be described. These are some of the rewards you take from Ama Dablam Expedition from Multi Adventure Trek.
