Multi named 6714m high mountain, Sumeru in sanskrit or Kailash in Hindi or Kang Rimpoche in Tibetan, in western Tibet is considered as “Navel of the universe”. The holy mountain is located near the headwaters of the Indus, Sutlej, Karnali and Brahmaputra rivers, which radiate away from the region in the four cardinal directions. It’s vivid mythological history goes back to the time when it was considered the embodiment of Mt Meru, the invisible center of the earth. Kailash is the most sacred mountain on the earth to the world’s Hindus as well as Jains, Tibetan Buddhists and Bon Pos. Hindus consider Kailash to be the abode of Shiva, the god of destruction and rebirth. Tibetan Buddhists believe the peak is the home of Demchog, a major guardian deity, and his consort Dorje Phangmo. Kailash is regarded as ‘King of Holy Mountains’ by the all sects of the region and is said to be like an olive towering into the sky, with the seven-colored round crown and surrounded by an eight-petal lotus. The whole mountain is like a crystal ice-carving inlaid with jade.
