NATTA observes 45th AGM
The Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) observed its 45th annual general meeting amidst a function organized in Kathmandu on 20th September. Also present on the occasion were government officials, industry leaders, travel trade people and media representatives But the AGM ended in a sour note as the umbrella organization of travel agents in the country failed to draw quorum required to approve its agendas presented in the closed session. This was probably the first time that the closed session of NATTA had to be annulled because of the absence of required number of members. In the inauguration session, secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation said that the government had brought different programs through the budget to further promote tourism sector. “Now the entrepreneurs also need to be honest and ensure that they will not compromise on the quality of their service at any cost,” he added. NATTA president Ram Kaji Koney hoped that tourism would revive in the changed political context and stressed on the need to increase air accessibility. “The government intends to bring in one million visitors in 2010 or 2011. But do we have sufficient carriers to bring in the required number of visitors,” he questioned.
